ABOUT
Stand + Stare create immersive theatre and experiential work.
The collective formed in 2009 as a result of a large site-specific performance that transformed an old neglected boys club. Since then it has evolved into a limited company run by brother and sister, Barney and Lucy Heywood. Still working with a constantly expanding and retracting wider collective, they produce touring productions, commercial commissions, small intimate pieces, audio experiences, short films and non-linear narratives.
Barney and Lucy are committed to writing new stories, and often find inspiration from shared memories and family history. They enjoy collaborating with a broad spectrum of artists from different disciplines to create work that is distinctive, accessible and original.
They are dedicated to the pursuit of work that seeks to experiment, particularly through the role of audience, choice of space, use of digital technology, and the fusion of theatre and art with other disciplines, such as food.
Stand + Stare is based in Bristol, and supported by a number of organisations including Arts Council England, Ferment at Bristol Old Vic, Pervasive Media Studio, Parabola Learning Curve, The Roses Theatre, Bristol Capacity, Stroud Valley Arts and Mayfest. Commercial clients include Pan Macmillan, TOAST, Santa & Cole, Alistair Sawday, Hobbs House Bakery and Millar Howard Architects.
