Column Morris
Circular notice boards for Arts and Cultural events
Two bespoke notice boards for advertising local arts and cultural events, funded by Stroud Town Council.
Inspired by the historic advertising columns invented in Germany in 1854—and famously known in France as "Morris columns"— our circular notice boards in Stroud town centre provide a dedicated home for arts and cultural event posters. The original idea came from a Stroud Town Council consultation aimed at making the town centre more attractive, these columns are designed to combat flyposting while beautifully showcasing the sheer volume of brilliant events happening locally.
We collaborated with local organisations to help identify the most effective locations, establish clear usage guidelines, and shape the columns' overall style. These boards are built for the community to use. Instructions for posting are included on the columns and if you spot anything that needs attention, you can report it by contacting Stroud Town Council.
They were funded by Stroud District Council’s Market Town Vitality Fund, with fabrication by Aron Duckworth, sign writing by Eleanor Harper, groundworks by Jeremy Hefferman. Later this autumn, they will be crowned with bespoke kinetic sculptures created by students at Ruskin Mill College.
